**Wrexham’s Phil Parkinson Considering Changes Ahead of Reading Match, While Harry Ashfield is Set to Miss Out**
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is contemplating adjustments to his lineup for the upcoming match against Reading, with Harry Ashfield expected to be sidelined due to injury.
Following a thrilling 3-2 victory over Norwich City on Saturday, Wrexham showcased an impressive performance at Carrow Road. While Parkinson enjoyed the success in Norfolk, there’s little time for the team to relish the win as they prepare for yet another challenge.
The team is set to face Reading in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, and Parkinson may opt to rotate some players within his squad to keep them fresh.
This presents an excellent opportunity for fringe players at Wrexham to step up and make their mark. Dan Scarr and Elliot Lee are likely to see action in the match, but Ashfield will not be participating. The young Wrexham talent had made quite an impression during his cup appearances, earning praise from Parkinson after his notable performance against Preston North End.
Unfortunately, Ashfield’s recent ankle injury will keep him off the field for several weeks. Parkinson disclosed in a recent interview that Ashfield sustained the injury during what he described as a ‘nothing incident,’ impacting his ligaments.
“Harry Ashfield got injured on Friday in a trivial situation,” Parkinson explained. “He has damaged his ankle ligaments and is expected to be out for a few weeks.”
This injury comes shortly after fellow homegrown player Aaron James was also sidelined with a knee issue, leaving Wrexham without two promising young talents for the encounter against Reading.
With Ashfield unavailable, this game presents a prime opportunity for Elliot Lee to step into the lineup, especially given his limited action in the Championship recently. Alongside Matty James and George Thomason, Lee may be poised to take on a more creative role in midfield.
Originally, Ashfield had been a strong candidate for inclusion, with many eager to see his continued growth on the field. Now that he is out, Lee looks to be the next best option as Wrexham’s more attack-focused midfielder. Having once been a key player for Wrexham, Lee finds himself in a position where he would greatly appreciate the chance to start against Reading—particularly since he found the net in their previous encounter at the STōK Cae Ras last season.
As the match against Reading approaches, all eyes will be on how Parkinson adapts his strategy in light of these recent developments.
