**Paul Mullin: On a Mission to Prove Himself in Wigan**
Paul Mullin is on a relentless quest to showcase his talent and validate the faith of Phil Parkinson and Wrexham as he prepares for his return to Wales next summer. Currently on loan to Wigan Athletic in League One, Mullin has emerged as one of the team’s key goal-scoring threats, playing a pivotal role in their ambition to ascend back to the Championship.
The striker has already netted four goals combining his efforts in the EFL Cup and League One, and his performance is expected to continue making an impact while he competes in Greater Manchester.
Unfortunately, Wigan faced a disappointing loss over the weekend, followed by a setback midweek causing their exit from the EFL Cup. In light of this, manager Ryan Lowe emphasized the need for his squad to elevate their performance levels.
**A Plea for Improvement from Wigan’s Manager**
In the aftermath of Wigan’s 2-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, which ended their EFL Cup run, Ryan Lowe addressed the team’s efforts in an interview. He acknowledged that while there has been some positive display on the pitch, there remains a necessity for the players to aim higher.
“We’re not the finished product,” he stated, noting that with three losses, three wins, and three draws, their current position of 12th in the standings reflects their performance accurately. “I always strive for more, and I want the players to pursue greater achievements as well. I know our fans and the club desire more from us. However, we can only work with what we have right now.”
Lowe described the path to improvement as a gradual process filled with daily coaching, training sessions, video analysis, and communication. He expressed his belief that the team could’ve achieved more points, suggesting they should be sitting on 15 instead of 12.
**No Showdown with Wrexham in 2025**
While Wigan was poised to clash with Wrexham in the next round of the EFL Cup, their elimination means that these teams won’t face each other this season. With Wigan playing in League One and Wrexham in the Championship, a meeting in league play isn’t possible.
The two clubs could potentially meet in the FA Cup, but Wrexham won’t enter that tournament until January 2026, ruling out any chance of Mullin competing against his parent club in 2025.
As Mullin continues to focus on his development and contributions at Wigan, his journey thus far exemplifies a player determined to make an impact and secure a place back with Wrexham, where he has made a name for himself.
